The Pencil Creative is the studio of me, Julie Martin, a digital generalist based in Denham Springs, LA. I work across multple disciplines on a broad area of subject matter, including illustration, digital compositing, digital painting, videography, motion graphics, 3D modeling, and drafting. I like to keep things a simple as possible, while still delivering a product that is creative and tells a story.
I have been a user of Adobe products for a very long time, but did not start getting proficient in the use of the software until I went back to LSU and got a second degree in digital art. My first degree is in engineering technology, from LSU as well. I have both a technical and a creative side that are constantly at battle with each other! As a result, I got very proficient using AutoCAD, and still use the LT version for assorted drafting projects when needed. After many years in technical fields, I decided to embrace the creative side of myself.
On that note, I exclusively use Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom, After Effects, and Premiere Pro for my work. For 3D modeling and animation, I started with Autodesk Maya, but I have just made the switch to Cinema 4D, primarily due to its popularity in the motion graphics industry.
My camera of choice for both photography and video is a Canon 6D with a Tamron 24-70 zoom lens. I also use an assortment of actions cameras for video work, including a GoPro Hero 4 Silver, Hero 5 Black, and a couple of cheap generic knock-offs that I don’t have to worry about if they fly off somewhere and break.
